Rüdiger Joppe

“Design is the method of putting form and content together. Design, just as art, has multiple definitions, there is no single definition. Design can be art. Design can be aesthetics. Design is so simple, that’s why it is so complicated.” Paul Rand

Born in the north of Germany in Bremen, Rüdiger moved to Berlin to study communication design at the University of Applied Science Potsdam, where he successfully graduated in 2001. Always having a special connection to the USA, he took the chance to attend at an exchange program for one year at the design department of the Ohio State University in Columbus. His work for the final thesis won various awards among them American Graphic Design Award, Graphic Design USA 2002 for letterhead system + logo design.

He worked as an art director at Plantage Berlin and Schindler Parent Identity (new name Realgestalt). Developing identity and branding systems, promotional materials, environmental graphics, packaging and publication designs he worked for a broad range of clients that includes among others, Daimler Group, Universal Music, FSB, BMW, Rivella, Philips and Sony.

2007 it was time to start something of his own. He founded Joppe Berlin, a design office with the focus on corporate and editorial design.

A wide network of design specialists, photographer, editors and web programmers allows Joppe Berlin to always assamble a tailormade design team for the specific design project.

Since 2008 his activities as tutor at the BTK - University for Design for editorial design and creative techniques help students getting better designers and being able to think in concepts.
